Facing the Giants

Numbers 13

 

I.           God was ready for his people to move forward to the prized land.   (vs.1)

A.  Moses chose 12 men, one from each of the tribes.

B.  Their job was to spy out the land and gather information - not formulate a personal opinion.

 

II. God wanted the leaders to be ready to move forward and receive the prized land.     (vs. 27-32) (Numbers 14:1-11)

A.  Notice how fear and doubt overcame 10 of the 12 spies.

B.  The people became timid and powerless.  Their discouragement led to rebellion.  (Psalm 46:1-3)

C.  (Is. 40:31)

D. “My brethren, count it all joy when you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”( James 1:2-3)

E. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not on thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths.”  (Proverbs. 3:5)  

F.  The scriptures have never recorded a single time in which God rewarded faithlessness.

G.  (Matthew 17:14-20)

H. “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of Power, Love, and Self-Discipline.”  (II Timothy 1:7)

 

III. God punished the people of Israel and rewarded the faithful spies.

(vs. 26-34)

A. What does the world see when they look at the church? Often times they see Christians SERVING God, but not SEEING God.

B. “Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

(I John 5:4)
