A Case for Christ

Who is the Man Christ Jesus?”

Part 2

Matthew 16: 13-17

In order to make a case for Christ, it is essential we know who He is and what He came to accomplish.

I.         Jesus presented Himself as a challenge to conventional thought.

A.  Jesus had no desire to replicate the past.  There was going to be a completely different approach to pleasing God and it wasn’t going to be accomplished through old law.  (Matthew 5: 17, 33, 38-44)

B.  No longer would just the appearance of one’s holiness matter, but now the heart would be considered.
(Matthew 23:25-28)

C.  No longer would we worship with temples made of hands, but now our temple would be the Messiah.
(John 2:18-23)

D.  In spite of the religious leaders (Sadducess) disdain for anyone who believed in the bodily resurrection, Jesus came to present Himself as the risen Savior of the world.  (John 10:25)

II.  Jesus spoke with absolute authority, clarity and accuracy.

A.  Jesus lived a sinless life.  (I Peter 2:22-25, Isaiah 53:9)

B.  Jesus lived an earthy life with purpose and clear direction.   (Isaiah 61:13, Luke 4:16-21)

C.  Even as a child, Jesus knew His reason for being on earth.  (Luke 2:16-21)

D.  If we want to emulate Christ in our daily lives, we must make everyday count for righteousness sake.

III.  Jesus was the miracle worker.

A.  John 20:30-31

B.  When 1st century magicians and incantations were used it was for the benefit of the one performing the slight of hand.
(Acts 8:12-21)

C.  Jesus' desire was not for self-glorification, but for our salvation.

D.  Even Jesus critics never challenged the fact that He did miracles.  (Matthew 12:22-24)
